Rhinox Buckets have recently launched our latest innovation… The Uni-tusk X1 bucket blade system

Following months of consultation with the plant hire industry and utilities contractors, Rhinox identified that many contractors are insisting that buckets are now used without any teeth fitted to reduce the chance of cable strike.

An estimated 60,000 underground cable strikes occur every year, which can cause serious injury or death and cost businesses millions of pounds in associated damages and compensation costs.

Rhinox recognised the importance of protecting lives, but also identified another issue that plant hire companies were facing.  Using buckets without wear blades was causing maintenance costs to go through the roof.

Bucket teeth are typically much harder than the steel used in a bucket, for the simple reason that they are usually the first part of a bucket to engage with the ground.

Additionally, a sidecutter type tooth also reinforces the corner of the bucket by locking the side plate of the bucket into the lip plate, so that the bucket isn’t relying on the weld alone.

With these points in mind, the Rhinox buckets team set to work with a mission to solve the issues faced by both the Utility contractors and the Plant Hire companies who often supply them.

That mission was:  Find a solution that continues to minimise cable strike, whilst dramatically reducing bucket wear.

Putting Innovation 1st…

Part of the culture at Rhinox has been to put innovation at the heart of what we do.  Our team is constantly developing new ideas that benefit our customers, to help improve efficiency, increase quality and reduce costs.

So our team got together having spoken to plant hire companies and utility contractors all around the country, and distilled it into the product we have named as the Uni-tusk X1.

What are the benefits?

The Uni-tusk X1 combines a tooth and blade into one system with no sharp edges to reduce the chance of penetrating underground cables and pipes, but at the same time, it allows for efficient digging.

Because the blade fits onto the bucket it strengthens the corners of the bucket and locks the lip plate to the side plate of the bucket.

Additionally, the Uni-tusk X1 is cast steel which is 550HB (i.e. very hard!).

Early trials show that it increases bucket lifetime by at least 4-6 times, and possibly longer!
